Tallest Poppy
Breaking rain a tree broke under
bolt of light then torn asunder
walls of fear from chromosphere
fell down the drought was drowned here,
said no word, ground shook,
lost the place in my book
but heated streets and shaken bones
broke upon new climate shoals,
can only grow to be above the reeds
the tallest poppy tree for so long,
when the sharpest sickle sicks
the tallest poppy's hard to miss
but who on high looking down would know
was it a hammer of the gods? Tornado?
Blowdown? Fated to fall?
Strongest on sight but weakest of all?
Fallen trees fallen leaves
crushing bad balconies
releasing veiled swaths in space to see
places I've never seen.
Said a lot and turned around
I could open a book
or could put it down.
