Would you know me as I knew you were I the one was passing?
Well we both went down to Tavern
Played for a show of passion over the checkered chessboard floor.
A passion for the indie show, a passion shows, in passing go.
I’m all alone in the first row in mind,
Although closer to the door, but at shows when all alone I’m fine.
When there’s nobody you know
I would still come up to the front and stand there all alone,
Nine in ten shows, cold and empty,
Playing to the barback, the disappointed staff.

The disaffected punters who come from someplace other,
Take up two tables, laugh loud, hog the pool, carry on amongst themselves,
Yeah sure they paid to come like the chumps that they are to this dump
With the checkered chessboard floor, didn’t matter you were playing,
It could be any other. But me, I listened.
Would they play you like they played me?
Took out back got done with me?
Did they come here to say they saw you play, then post away?
But did they ever hear you whenever they got near you?
